Yes. I have a very black and white opinion on fur. I believe fur is vile, barbaric, and cruel. At least the animals that are trapped didn’t have to be subjected to a life on a fur farm, but fur is trapping cruel.
Often times animal that were not meant for these traps get caught. About 5 million “non-target” animals are caught by steel jaw leghold traps every year, including pet dogs, cats, owls, eagles, and various endangered species. There is NOTHING glamorous about ANY aspect of the fur trade.
Anyone who frets that backing a fur ban is hypocritical has succumbed to all-or-nothing thinking, and is NOT representing the animals’ best interests. The table of existing animal cruelty is extravagantly set, and can only be cleared one plate at a time. Any opportunity to remove a plate should always be immediately taken.
The fur trade is it’s own industry and still exists because people still buy fur. Any fur bought from CHINA supports the slaughter of TWO million dogs and cats each year. The fur trade has NO correlation to the meat industry. Most leather is a co-product of the meat industry and still has nothing to do with fur.
You CAN eat meat, and still be anti fur, as fur is a frivolous, piece of “fashion” that can easily be replaced with faux, or no fur at all.
ANYONE can be anti-fur. You can make a difference simply by vowing never to buy fur.
***Note, while we believe that no animal skins should be used AT ALL, this post was written for all of those who claimed banning fur whilst eating meat/wearing leather was hypocritical.
One of our 2012 goals is to get KITSON to go fur free! KITSON pulled most (but not all) of their fur off of their website after we warned them. However, they are STILL selling fur in their stores.
